Dance
Students undertaking the study of Dance will experience, understand, value and enjoy Dance as an art form through the interrelated study of performance, composition and appreciation. Dance performance consists of dance technique, body skills and the applicaiton of safe dance technique to selected styles of dance. Dance composition involves creating and structuring movement to express and communicate ideas and feelings through the use of choreographic devices and elements of dance. Dance appreciation consists of looking at what makes dance sae and describing and analysing dance as an expression of ideas within a social, historical and cultural context.
Performance Dance
The performing arts faclty offers studetns learning and experiences in both curricular and extra-curricular areas catering for all students, mainstream, support and externtion (Gifted And Talented). As part of the curriculum, students have the opporuntity to take part in dance. We offer both auditioned and non-auditioned courses in each of these subjects.
Ensembles and companies
Glenwood High School’s Elite, Junior and Senior Dance Companies are celebrated throughout the Western and Sydney Regions. Performing within the contemporary, jazz and lyrical dance genres, all groups rehearse before and after school once a week. All ensembles perform and represent Glenwood High School at Synergy Dance Festival, Rydges Festival, the State Dance Festival, Pulse held at the Sydney Opera House and at the Australian Dance Festival where they have won the prestigious choreography award.
