First Day Term 2

Dear parents and carers

I hope that you all enjoyed your iso-Easter with your immediate family and have formed some positive family memories with your children. I know my children have been "forced" to spend more quality time than usual with my husband and I. The board games and jigsaw puzzles are getting a good work out and who would have thought that going to the shops would be such a good outing. At least we can all rejoice in the news that our actions have "flattened the curve".

The Premier, at a press conference this morning, announced a phased return of students to the classroom from May 11. School leaders are to determine how this works for individual schools, in a manner that ensures the safety of students and staff, and plan accordingly. The plan does not mean all students on site at the same time.

To assist us with planning for this complex organisational issue, and to continue with the online teaching, the Department of Education has announced that the term will start with TWO School Development Days. That means both Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 April will be School Development Days, and teachers will not be available for teaching on those days. Online teaching and learning will resume on Wednesday 29 April.

I have spent this morning listening to an online briefing from the Secretary of the Department of Education. Over the next few days, the Executive and I will be reading the advice material provided by the Department and the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC). I will be liaising with our cleaning contractors to give me an update on where we are in relation to hygiene products, including hand soap, sanitiser, disinfectant wipes and hand towels. The Senior Executive will use the first days of next term to plan the managed return to school.

We will be reaching out to students in the first couple of days, similar to the end of term assembly, to give students an update on what the first two weeks will look like, and what the plan will be moving forward into Week 3 of this term. I have attached the Department's 'Managed Return to School - guidelines for families". This document will give you some insight into the planned approach that the Department has for Term 2 if all goes well with 'flattening the curve'.

On Friday we will be uploading, onto the school website, our Virtual Anzac Day Assembly that you may like to watch with your child on Saturday morning as part of your own private commemorations. I will be joining the RSL NSW request for all Australians to stand at the end of their driveways (or balconies) as a unique way to remember those who served and scarified.

I know you, like the staff at Glenwood, will have many questions. I hope that in our planning, we will be able to address your concerns. I will continue provide regular emails.

Take Care,

Sonja Anderson

Principal
